The top 20 games of my 2020.

2020 was some year, right?

We probably started a bit earlier than most in my house. In early February 2020 my daughter was rushed to hospital after she suffered an asthma attack brought on by a chest infection. She spent 5 days in hospital before being allowed home. Our self imposed lockdown was just coming to an end and things were getting back to normal when COVID struck in the UK and a government enforced lockdown happened.

But in-spite of the chaos one thing that kept me sane was gaming. I started out playing PS4 before moving onto Wii U, then Switch. So now with 2020 behind us I thought I’d list the 20 games I completed in 2020, and give each game a score out of 10.

1: Crash Bandicoot (PS4)

2: Crash Bandicoot 2 (PS4)

3: (You guessed it) Crash 3 (PS4)

I bought the Crash trilogy on sale from PSN store. 3 good games, collectively I’d give them a 7/10.

4: Cat Quest (PS4) A charming indie game that I managed to platinum. 7/10

This is where we came home from hospital and I had to play something without the t.v.

5: Super Mario 3D World (Wii U) A brilliant game, one of the best on the system. 8/10 (I’ll no doubt buy it again on Switch)

6: Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap (Wii U) One of my favourite Zelda games ever. 9/10

Full UK lockdown starts here and I go hard on Switch.

7: Luigi’s Mansion 3 (Switch) My game of the year, pure unadulterated Nintendo magic 10/10.

8: Onimisha Warlords (Switch) Is calling it Resident Evil with ninja’s unfair? E-shop bargain 6/10.

9: New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe (Switch) The series is starting to get a little stale for me but side scrolling Mario is still fun. 7/10.

10: New Super Lucky’s Tale (Switch) Fun old school 3D platformer. Slight Mario 64 vibes. 7/10.

11: Darksiders (Switch) Surprise hit for me. If God of War and Zelda had a baby this is what they’d make. Really enjoyed it until the castle last level. 8/10.

12: Yoshi’s Island (Switch online) Ok Mario platformer. 6/10.

13: Legend of Zelda: Link to the past (Switch online) I first played this in 1994 and have started it so many times, this was the first time I ever finished it. Brilliant game, I was genuinely happy to see my uncle alive again 9/10.

14: Bioshock (Switch) Classic. Not as memorable as first time round but still an awesome experience 8/10.

15: Yoshi’s Crafted World (Switch) Again, felt a bit by the numbers, preferred Woolly World 6/10.

16: Sonic the Hedgehog-MegaDrive collection (Switch) Tough as nails, save states helped A LOT. 7/10

17: Golden Axe-MegaDrive collection (Switch) Has not aged well at all, again saves states were used 5/10.

18: Streets of Rage 3-Mega-Drive collection (Switch) played 1 and 2 originally on MegaDrive. This is by far the weaker of the 3 games 5/10.

19. Super Mario 64 (Switch) One of the greatest games ever made. This will forever be in my top 3 games of all time. I will play this for as long as I play games. 10/10

20: Super Mario Galaxy (Switch) A brilliant Mario title, just behind 64 IMO. I feel it’s missing something without the Wii-mote but still a classic 9/10.

And there we have it, for no other reason than I wanted to list them, there are my lockdown 2020 top 20 games, what games did you enjoy through lockdown?
